우리들 이야기

목장 방문 중에 이단과 사이비에 대한 질문을 듣고 몇 가지 정리해 드립니다. ‘이단’은 성경의 핵심 교리를 왜곡하여 가르치는 집단을 의미합니다. ‘사이비’는 종교라는 이름을 갖고 있지만, 사회적으로 윤리적으로 문제를 일으키는 집단입니다. 주로 시한부 종말론, 교주를 신격화하고, 재산과 노동과 성을 갈취하여 범죄를 저지릅니다.  이단과 사이비를 분별하고, 그들의 모임에 참여하거나 교류하지 말고, 경계해야 합니다. 그들은 특정 가르침에만 훈련을 받았기 때문에 그들을 설득시키는 것은 쉽지 않습니다. 그러나 하나님께서 만나게 하셔서 마음을 여는 이단 출신 VIP들은 섬김으로 참 복음을 듣고 변화되기도 합니다. 오늘은 대표적인 이단들의 특징과 함께 몇 가지 예들을 들겠습니다. 첫째, 성경 외의 권위를 인정하는 것입니다. 이단은 성경만 외에 다른 계시나 책을 동일하거나 더 높은 권위로 둡니다. 예를 들어 몰몬교는 [몰몬경], 통일교는 [원리강론]을 성경과 동일한 권위로 받아들입니다. 성경만이 기록된 하나님의 말씀입니다. 

둘째, 하나님과 예수님의 본질을 왜곡합니다. 건전한 기독교는 삼위일체 하나님을 믿지만, 여호와의 증인은 삼위일체를 부정하고 예수님을 피조물로 봅니다. 셋째, 구원의 방법을 바꿉니다. 성경은 믿음을 통해 구원받는다고 가르치지만, 이단은 특정 행위나 선행이나 조직에 소속을 강조합니다. 예를 들어 안식교는 안식일 준수와 율법적 요소가 구원과 밀접하다고 강조하기도 합니다. 넷째, 특정 교주, 지도자를 신성시합니다. 통일교 같은 집단은 창시자나 지도자를 신으로 섬기고, 그들의 해석을 절대적으로 따르도록 요구합니다. 다섯째, 극단적인 배타성과 폐쇄성을 보입니다. 이단은 자신들만이 진리를 가진 집단이라고 주장하며, 다른 교회가 모두 틀렸다고 합니다.  이러한 공통된 특징들은 단순한 교리 차이를 넘어, 복음의 본질(예수 그리스도의 신성, 은혜로 인한 구원, 성경의 권위)을 흐리게 만든다는 점에서 문제가 됩니다. 그러므로, 여러분은 성경을 계속적으로 배우고, 건강한 목장 모임과 교회 공동체 안에서 거짓을 분별하는 것이 중요합니다. 이단의 특징에 대해서도 알아야 하겠지만, 여러분이 정말 예수님을 확실히 구원자로 믿는지와 성경을 하나님의 말씀으로 인정하는지 확인해야, 여러분이 보는 유튜브나 책이나 사람이 이단인지 구분이 가능합니다.   

Many church members asked me about heresy and cult during my visit to HCs, so I would like to use this opportunity to explain. “Heresy” is a group that teaches distorted Biblical doctrines. Cults may appear to be a religious group; however, they often harm others socially and ethically. Usually, they preach apocalyptic doctrine, deify their founder, and commit crimes by exploiting and abusing property, labor, and sexuality from their own members. We must discern heresy and cult, not join their gathering, not interact with them, and keep away from them. It is hard to convince them to turn away from what they believe since they have been brainwashed by certain teachings from their own organization. Some VIPs from a cult/heresy can be changed after receiving Good News if God allows us to meet them and open their hearts. Today, let me give you some examples of heretic groups, highlighting their characteristics. First, they accept authorities other than scripture. Heretic groups give the same or higher authority to certain books of prophecy or other books besides the Bible. For example, Mormons regard the “Book of Mormon,” and the Unification Church regards the [Divine Principle] as the same authority as the Bible. Only the Bible is the written Word of God. Second, they distort the nature of God and Jesus. 

True Christianity believes in the Trinity, while Jehovah’s Witnesses deny the Trinity, treating Jesus as a creation. Third, they change the way of salvation. The Bible teaches us we are saved by faith; however, heretic organizations emphasize certain practices, good deeds, and/or membership in their organization. For example, the Seventh Day Adventists further claim that keeping the Sabbath Holy and obeying their law is closely related to salvation. Fourth, they idolize their founder and/or leaders. The Unification Church serves its founder/leader as its god, requiring unconditional faith in their explanation. Fifth, they demonstrate extreme exclusivity and isolation. Heretic organizations claim that they are the only truth-possessing organization, and all other churches are wrong. These shared characteristics go beyond minor doctrinal differences; it becomes a problem as it obscures the very essence of Good News (Divinity of Jesus, salvation by grace, Authority of the Bible). Therefore, you need to continue to learn the Bible and discern falsehood within the healthy HC and church community. We must know the characteristics of heresy. Furthermore, you must be assured that you believe in Jesus as your savior and accept the Bible as the word of God. By doing so, you may discern what you read and watch on YouTube, in person, or in other media, is heresy or not.
