우리들 이야기

모든 종교에는 기도가 있지만, 원하는 것을 구하는 주문과 같습니다. 그런데 기독교의 기도는 살아 계신 하나님 아버지와 대화이기 때문에 간절히 구하는 기도, 회개, 감사, 다른 사람을 중보하는 기도, 고백하는 기도 등이 많이 있습니다.  하나님은 우리가 기도로 구하면 응답하시겠다고 성경을 통해서 분명히 약속하셨습니다.(마 7:7) "구하여라, 그리하면 하나님께서 너희에게 주실 것이다. 찾아라, 그리하면 너희가 찾을 것이다. 문을 두드려라, 그리하면 하나님께서 너희에게 열어 주실 것이다. 8 구하는 사람마다 얻을 것이요, 찾는 사람마다 찾을 것이요, 문을 두드리는 사람에게 열어 주실 것이다. 11 너희가 악해도 너희 자녀에게 좋은 것을 줄 줄 알거든, 하물며 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께서, 구하는 사람에게 좋은 것을 주지 아니하시겠느냐?") 저에게 이렇게 질문하는 분이 종종 있습니다. 정말 믿음으로 오랫동안 기도했는데, 왜 어떤 기도는 응답이 안 되는가? 가족의 구원이나 치유, 은사, 정신적인 문제, 빚을 갚는 것, vip를 전도하는 것 등을 위해 간절히 기도했는데, 응답이 없어 하나님의 뜻을 모르겠다는 것입니다. 

특히 이런 기도를 했을 때 응답이 없으면 혼란스러운 이유는 우리의 생각에는 정말 절박한 내용들이기 때문입니다. 저의 대답은 솔직히 한 가지의 정답은 없지만 이런 상황이 있을 때 저는 이렇게 생각을 정리합니다. 첫째, 하나님은 네 가지 방법(yes, no, wait, different)으로 꼭 응답하십니다. 하나님은 우리와 기도 대상자를 사랑하시기 때문에 가장 최선의 시간에 최선의 방법으로 응답하실 것을 믿습니다. 둘째, 그 문제에 대한 하나님의 뜻이 ‘내 은혜가 네가 충분하다’라는 것이 아닌지 생각해 봅니다. 고후 12장에서는 바울이 자신에게 있는 육체적 질병을 위해 3번이나 구했지만 그가 받은 은혜에 교만하지 않게 하기 위해 주님이 그냥 두셨다고 하셨습니다. 셋째, 좀 더 기도의 잔이 채워지는 것이 필요한 것은 아닌지 생각해 봅니다. 약1:2-3절에 시련이 인내를 낳기 때문에 기뻐하라고 합니다. 하나님께서 의도적으로 우리가 간절히 더 오래 기도함으로 우리의 인내력과 주님에 대한 믿음과 영성이 자라도록 일정 기간 기다리게 하실 때가 있습니다. 기도응답이 지금 없어도, 실망하지 말고 포기하지 말고, 하나님은 합력해서 좋은 결과를 주시는 분임을 믿고 계속 기도하시기 바랍니다.  

All religions have their own form of prayers; they are more like chants, asking for what they want. However, prayers in Christianity are more like a conversation with the living God, the Father. Hence, it has many different types of prayers like earnest supplication, repentance, thanksgiving, intercessory prayers, confessions, etc. God assured us that he will answer if we pray as the Bible says in Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Some asked me about this question from time to time: why their prayers are not answered despite them praying faithfully for a long time. Some further questioned, they are confused about God's will because their prayer isn’t answered- prayer of family’s salvation, healing, talent, psychological problems, paying off the debt, bringing VIPs to the church, etc. People are confused when they don’t receive any answer to these prayers because those prayers are indeed earnest to us. 

Honestly, I don’t have the answer for these questions; this is my rationale for situations like these. First, God will answer in these four ways (yes, no, wait, and different), no matter what. God loves us and those whom we pray. I do believe God will answer in the best way and at the best time. Second, we need to see if God’s will for that issue is “My Grace is sufficient for you.” In 2nd Corinthians chapter 12, Paul asked God three times for healing of his physical illness, but the Lord left it as it is so that Paul might not become arrogant about the grace received. Third, we need to see if our cup of prayer needs to be filled up more. In James 1:2-3, James urges us to rejoice because testing of our faith produces perseverance. Sometimes, God intentionally holds his answer from us for some time, so that we may grow our faith and spirituality by praying more earnestly and longer. Even if your prayer doesn’t get answered now, don’t be distressed or give up. Remember that in all things God will work for our good. So please continue to pray.
