우리들 이야기

저는 비전교회의 담임목사라서 너무 자랑스럽고 감사하고 행복합니다. 그 이유는 성경을 믿고 실천하고 섬기는 사람이 어느 교회보다 많다고 생각하기 때문입니다. 또한 우리 교회만 잘 되는 것에 만족하지 않고, 다른 교회들과 목회자님들과 선교사님들과 지역사회를 섬기기 때문입니다. 그래서 자연스럽게 다른 교회 목회자들이나 교인들과 이야기를 할 때 우리교회의 장점에 대해 자랑을 합니다. 그런데 우리교회를 사용하시는 하나님을 자랑하기 보다는 그런 우리 교회 자체를 은근히 교만한 마음으로 자랑하는 것은 아닌지 생각하게 될 때가 있습니다. 또한 그런 자랑이 우리 교회 만이 옳고 다른 교회는 다 틀렸다는 교만의 마음을 가지는 것이 위함하다는 것을 다시 한번 생각하게 되었습니다. 지난 주간에 [목회자를 위한 가정교회 세미나]를 우리교회가 주최 하면서 저와 우리교회 형제자매들의 말에서 그런 실수를 할 수도 있겠다는 생각을 하게 되었습니다. 한 목사님이 나눔을 하면서, 자신도 목회자로 부름을 받은 이후에 섬기는 교회들 마다 영혼구원을 위해서 지금까지 최선을 다 했다는 것입니다. 

성경을 가르치고, 전도를 하고, 설교를 하고, 성도님들을 돌보는 사역에 누구보다 땀흘리며 최선을 다했습니다. 그런데 그런 사역들이 마치 전부 잘 못 되고 의미가 없지는 않았다는 것을 생각하게 되었다는 것입니다. 물론 우리 교회가 추구하는 가정교회 정신과 100% 같지는 않았지만, 그 목사님 부부도 믿음이 없는 분을 찾아 식사를 대접하고, 심방하고, 상담을 해 드리고, 금식 기도까지 열심히 하셨습니다. 저는 그 목사님에게 가정교회는 그런 목회에 마치 [날개를 달아 드리는 것과 같다]교 표현했습니다. 더욱 성경적인 교회의 목적과 목회의 모델들이 가정교회 안에 많이 있다는 것도 소개했습니다. 왜냐하면 이렇게 최선을 다해 지금까지 목회하신 분에게 교회의 장점을 자랑하는 것이 교만으로 전달되면 마음을 닫을 수도 있기 때문입니다. 우리 비전교회는 25년 이상을 가정교회로 방향을 잡아서 지금까지 잘 가고 있습니다. 하지만, 우리교회도 완벽한 교회는 아니라 주님이 계획하신 교회를 향해 계속 가고 있습니다. 가정교회를 시작한 휴스턴 서울교회도 완벽한 교회가 아니라, 주님이 원하시는 성경적인 교회를 만들어 가고 있는 것입니다. 그런 교회를 자랑하십시요. 하지만 교만은 안됩니다! 

I am so proud of myself being a senior pastor of Vision church- I am very grateful and happy. It is all because I believe our church has far more church family members who believe in the Bible and put it into action than other churches. Also, we don’t stop there - we further serve our other churches, other pastors, missionaries, and our community. This makes me want to talk about the good things about our church to other church pastors and members, because I am so proud of this. Sometimes, I worry that I do this to boost my pride about it rather than exalting God, who uses our church. Also, it made me think again about how dangerous it is to indulge in a sinful pride that we are only right and others are all wrong. I thought I and our church sisters/brothers might fall into the trap of boasting about our church without knowing it, as our church hosted [Seminar for HC ministers] last week. As one pastor shares his story, after he got a calling to become a pastor, he did his utmost best to save souls in the churches that he served. 

He did his utmost best with a dedication to teach the Bible, evangelize others, preach sermons, and take care of his church members. It came to my mind that all his hard work was not all wrong, and there must be a meaning in his ministry. His vision is not 100% same as our HC vision. However, this pastor couple treat those who don’t believe with a meal. The couple also takes time to visit, talk to them, and pray for those who don’t believe in fasting. I told him that HC is like [giving a wing to his ministry]. I further shared that HC follows more closely to Biblical church’s purpose and its ministry guidelines. If we keep talking about good things about HC without recognizing his dedication to his ministry, he might close his mind to the HC. For the past 25 years, our Vision church has followed the vision of HC, and we have been doing great. However, our church is not perfect, but we follow the path the Lord has prepared for us to become His Church. Seoul Baptist Church of Houston, the church that started HC, is not a perfect church either. They continue to build a Biblical church that our Lord wants. Be proud of that kind of church without pride!
