우리들 이야기

지난 토요일 오전 7시에 청년목장을 섬기는 목자들의 모임이 있었습니다. 이 때에 아침 식사를 섬기고 싶어 아내와 같이 감사 샐러드 샌드위치를 준비했었습니다. 금요일 심방을 하고 오다가 생각이 나서 급히 장을 보고 밤 11시까지 음식을 만들었습니다. 특히 샐러드를 만들려고 양파와 오이에서 물기를 짜야했습니다. 이후에 손을 비누로 두 번을 씻엇는데도, 계속 양파 냄새가 났습니다. 다음 날 새벽기도회를 인도한 후에 기도하려고 앉았는데 손에서 같은 냄새가 났습니다. 그런데 그 냄새가 어딘지 모르게 친숙함이 느껴졌습니다. 기억이 났습니다. 엄마의 손 냄새 였습니다. 엄마가 살아계셨을 때 나의 볼을 만져 주거나 손을 잡아줄 때 났던 냄새와 비슷했습니다. 양파와 마늘로 반찬을 만들어서 생긴 냄새와 로션 같은 화장품을 발라서 섞여 있는 냄새였습니다. 갑자기 엄마가 그리워 졌습니다. 새벽에 기도하는 중에 엄마가 생각났습니다. 이런 것을 경험해 본 분은 제가 무슨 말을 하는지 아실 것 같습니다.  

만약 여러분의 부모님이 아직 살아 계시다면 그분들이 살아 계실 때 잘 섬기시기 바랍니다. 나중에 후회나 죄송한 마음을 가지지 않으려면 지금 최선을 다해 연락해 드리고, 같이 여행을 하고, 용돈을 드리면서 부모님에게 사랑과 감사를 표현하시기 바랍니다. 만약 아직 부모님이 예수님을 믿지 않으신다면, 예수님을 믿으시도록 여러분의 구원 간증도하시고 복음을 전해드리기 바랍니다. 살아 계신 부모님과 시간을 보내세요. 부모님의 냄새 조차도 그리워서 그 냄새를 맡고 싶어도 더이상 할수 없을 때가 있습니다. 손을 잡고 싶어도 잡을 수 없을 때가 있습니다. 하지만, 그리스도인에게는 이런 그리움만 있는 것이 아닙니다. 왜냐면 예수님을 믿어 하나님의 자녀가 되면 하나님의 집인 천국에 가서 다시 만날 것이기 때문입니다. 천국에서 그 냄새가 날지는 모르겠습니다. 하지만 분명한 것은 어머니도 예수님을 영접하셨기 때문에 천국에서 만날 것입니다. 저의 어머니는 늦은 나이에 예수님을 영접했지만, 다른 사람들 전도도 하시고 기도도 많이 했습니다. 어머니는 글을 잘 모르셨지만 주기도문과 사도신경을 노트에 삐뚤한 글씨로 배껴 적고 매일 외우고, 일찍 잠에서 깨는 날은 새벽에 자식들을 위해 기도하셨습니다. 어머니의 그 냄새와 기도를 통해 오늘의 제가 있게하신 주님께 감사합니다.

Last Saturday 7 AM, Young adult HC leaders met. My wife and I prepared a potato salad sandwich because we wanted to treat them to breakfast. This came to my mind after Friday's house visit, so we rushed for a grocery shopping and made a sandwich till 11 PM the night before. Especially, I had dried out onions and cucumbers to make the salad. So my hands smelled like onions even after I washed them several times. My hands were still smelling like onions after the morning prayer meeting. However, that scent was strangely familiar. That it came across to me, it was how my mom’s hands smelled. It smelled like when my mom touched my cheeks or held my hands, back in the days when she was still alive. The smell was in combination of food ingredients like onions and garlic, mixed with her own lotion. All of a sudden, I missed my mother. My mother came to my mind during the morning prayer. You might know where this is going if you have experienced this before. 

If your parents are still alive, please serve them well while they are still with you. Please express your gratitude to your parents now by spending time with them, going on a trip with them, calling them, or supporting them financially- if you don’t want to regret it later. If your parents do not believe in Jesus yet, please share your salvation story and the Good News so that they may receive Jesus as their savior. Spend time with your parents while you can. The time will come when you cannot even smell them, no matter how much you want to do so. You will not be able to hold their hands, no matter how much you wish. However, for Christians, this is not all. Because we will surely meet again in God’s home, Heaven, because we became children of God by believing in Jesus. I am not sure if I can smell that mixture of onion and garlic in heaven. But what I know for sure is that I will meet my mother again in Heaven because she received Jesus as her Lord and Savior. My mother received Jesus as her Lord later in her age; however, she prayed a lot and shared the Gospel with many. My mother didn’t learn well how to read and write. However, she wrote the Lord’s Prayer and the Apostles’ Creed with her uneven handwriting so that she could memorize them every day. When she woke up early, she prayed for her children. I thank the Lord for my mother’s scent and prayer that made who I am right now.
