우리들 이야기

최근에 저에게는 두 가지 행복한 고민이 있습니다. 가장 큰 것은 정말로 감사하게도 계속해서 많은 청년들이 모이는데, 어떻게 담임목사로서 그들의 믿음이 잘 성장하도록 도울지에 대한 것입니다. 거의 매주마다 청년들이 인터넷을 보고, 어떤 경우는 누군가의 소개로, 혹은 축구같은 활동을 하다가 교회에 옵니다. 주일 출석이 30-40명이고, 7개 목장에 참석하는 청년들의 숫자는 대략 60명이 넘습니다. 그 중에 절반 정도는 vip(아직 믿음이 없는 분)입니다. 이것은 당연히 청년을 섬기는 목자목녀들이 정성껏 섬기며 목회한 것에서 시작된 것입니다.  한 번은 청년들을 섬기는 목자목녀들이 함께 모였습니다. 우리가 시도할 수 있는 네 가지 방법을 나누었습니다. 첫째는 목자 중에서 한 분이, 혹은 부부가 전적으로 청년을 위한 사역에 몰두하는 것이며 가장 좋은 방법입니다. 우리교회의 사정을 가장 잘 알고, 오래 사역을 할 수 있을 것입니니다. 하지만 계속적인 사역의 훈련과 도움이 필요합니다. 

둘째는 외부에서 청년을 사역하는 전문 목회자를 초청하는 것입니다. 이미 전문 훈련을 받았다는 장점이 있는데, 가정교회 안에서 찾아야 하고, 미래에 대한 확실성이 없다는 단점이 있습니다. 셋째는 현재 청년 리더들을 잘 격려하고 도와서 진행하는 것입니다. 목장별로 리더를 한 명씩 세워서 전체가 함께 계획하고 기도하는 것이 장점이며, 단 청년들은 결혼이나 취업으로 단기간에 이주할수 있다는 점입니다. 넷째는 그냥 이대로 계속 가는 방법이지만, 기도하고 기다리는 정도밖에 하지 않는 것입니다.  많은 교회에서 청년들이 없어서 미래에 대해 걱정을 많이 하는데, 우리는 오히려 많은 청년들을 어떻게 잘 양육할지를 행복하게 고민하는 것입니다.  둘째 고민은 부엌에 대한 것입니다. 이 또한 우리가 다른 교회들을 위해 섬기고 사역이 많아 져서 생긴 행복한 고민입니다. 평신도와 목회자를 위한 가정교회 세미나를 했고, 어르신을 위한 식사와 청년들을 위한 식사를 하기 시작하여 더욱 필요해졌습니다. 현재에 있는 부엌은 주일에 하베스트가 체육관을 사용하기 때문에 음식 냄새가 나면 안된다는 점과, 부엌의 가스로 요리하는 것들이 안전하지 않다는 문제가 있습니다. 그래서 건축가도 만나보고, 음식차량(food truck)도 알아보는 등 여러가지로 고민하고 있습니다. 함께 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.  

Recently, I have had to make two tough yet happy decisions. One of the important decisions to make is about our young adult group. Gratefully, we have many young adults coming to our Church. I am deciding how to support their spiritual growth as a senior pastor. Almost every week, new young adult members come to our church because of their online research, personal introduction, or other activities like soccer games. About 30-40 young adult members come to Sunday service, and more than 60 young adults come to 7 different HC meetings. About half of those young adults are VIPs (those who don't believe in Christ, yet). Certainly, this started because of the commitment and dedication of our HC leaders. So we convened a meeting with the young adults' HCs leadership. We have four approaches for this young adult group. First, this is the most desirable, one HC leader will be fully committed to the young adults' ministry. This is a better option because HC leaders know most about our Church, while providing a continuity with longevity for the ministry. However, this requires continuous training and support for the ministry. 

Second, we hire a minister with a young adult ministry specialty. This option is favorable because the minister is professionally trained for the ministry. However, we must find someone within HCs. Moreover, there is no certainty for the future. Third, we support and assist our current young adult leaders. This option is also favorable because we can appoint a young adult leader for each HCs, enabling us to plan and pray together for the ministry. However, those young adult leaders can’t provide longevity since they can move due to their job or marriage. Fourth, we do what we have been doing. But this option limits us to be passive, only doing prayer and waiting. This is one of the happy decisions to make because we are worrying about how to nurture our growing young adults, while many churches are worrying about their future due to a lack of young adult members. The second decision to make is about our kitchen. This is also a happy dilemma as our church serves other churches, and the ministry has grown significantly. We have been conducting seminars for lay leaders and ministers in our church. Also, we require more kitchen space because we serve meals for elderly and young adult members. Our current kitchen has limitations on how much cooking fumes emanate during Sundays since Harvest church uses the gym space for their services. Also kitchen safety issues because we still use propane fuel for cooking. So we have been consulting with contractors while looking for other options like food trucks. Please pray with us.
