우리들 이야기

오는 5월 16-18일에 저와 6명의 형제들이 오레곤에 있는 Village church에 탐방을 갑니다. 약 1년 전에 우리 교회가 모든 민족을 위한 교회로 업그레이드 하고 있다는 이야기를 들은 한 목사님이 이 교회를 소개해 주었습니다. 최근에 다시 그 목사님이 이 교회에 대해 소개를 해서 그 교회에서 섬기는 한 목사님에게 연락을 했는데, 알고 보니 하베스트에 새롭게 대학부를 담당 하는 미셀 오 전도사님의 친척이라고 합니다. 다른 한 분의 한인 목사님은 그 교회의 담임목사님입니다. 놀랍게도 미국인이 시작한 교회에 한인 1.5세인 Paul Choi목사님이 담임 목회자가 된 것입니다. 또 신기하게 이 교회 성도님 두 분이 5월 4일 비전교회 2부 예배에 방문을 했습니다. 이 분들은 frontier USA라는 선교 단체에서 일주일간 훈련을 받기 위해 왔다고 했습니다. 마치 우리가 그 교회 탐방을 가는 것을 하나님께서 인정해 주시는 듯한 생각이 들어서 감사했습니다. 그 분들을 통해서 이 교회의 역사를 조금더 듣게 되었습니다. 

이 교회는 약 76여년 전에 미국 백인에 의해 선교의 비전을 가지고 시작된 교회가 3-40년 전에는 모든 민족을 위한 교회로 전향을 하게 되었습니다. 한 한국인 가족을 만남으로 계속해서 한국인 가족들이 교회에 와서 지금은 한인이 150여명이 출석합니다. 뿐만 아니라, 스페인어를 하는 가족, 아프리카 출신 가족, 중국인 가족, 인디언 가족들이 계속해서 교회에 연결이 되었습니다. 결국 지금은 약 1500명의 성도 중에서 50%가 넘는 분들은 백인이 아니라 다른 민족이라고 합니다. 이번에 이 교회를 탐방가는 첫 번째 이유는 어떻게 다민족 교회를 진행했는지, 그 과정에서 생길 수 있는 어려움을 어떻게 극복했는지, 다민족을 위한 교회가 되기 위해 어떤 교회 시스템을 가지고 있는지 등을 배우려는 것입니다. 두 번째 목적은 함께 가는 형제들과 짧은 탐방을 가면서 대화도 하고 같이 시간을 보내어 관계를 더 좋게 가지려고 합니다. 세번째 목적은 가능하면 그 교회에 가정교회를 소개하려고 합니다. 잘 배우고 안전하게 돌아오도록 기도해 주십시요.  

6 brothers and I will visit the Village church in Oregon during 16-18 May 2025. A pastor, who heard that our church is upgrading to become a church of all nations, introduced us to Village Church. Recently, that pastor introduced us to the church again, so I could have a chance to talk to one of the pastors of the village church. We found out that the pastor is the cousin of our pastor, Michelle Oh, minister of the Harvest Church College ministry. Another Korean pastor is the senior pastor of that church. Surprisingly, immigrant Korean 1.5 generation Rev. Paul Choi became the senior pastor of the church founded by an American. Again, what surprised us is that two Village Church members visited our Orlando Vision Church and joined our service during the 2nd Sunday Service. Those two who visited shared with us that they came to attend a week of training from Frontier USA, a world mission organization. I was thankful because it looks like God is approving our visit to the Village church. 

We were able to learn about the Village Church's history from those two. The church was founded about 76 years ago by a White American pastor with a strong vision of Mission. The church realigned its vision to become a Church of all nations about 30-40 years ago. After one Korean family joined the church, the church now has about 150 Korean members. Moreover, the church continues to receive Spanish-speaking families, families from Africa, Chinese families, and native American families. The church has about 1500 members, and more than 50% of the church members have a multinational background. There are many reasons why we visit the Village church. First, we want to learn how they proceeded to become a church of all nations. How they overcame challenges from that transformation, and what systems are in place to become the church of all nations. The second purpose of the visit is to build stronger relationships with our fellow brothers and sisters as we spend time together. Third, if possible, we would like to share our House Church. Please pray for us that we may learn well and return home safely.
