우리들 이야기

지난 주부터 본당 무대 위에 국기들을 두었습니다. 미국, 한국, 중국, 브라질, 남아공, 멕시코, 카작스탄, 영국, 아이티로서 총 9개 나라의 국기를 둔 이유는 현재 비전교회 출석하는 형제자매들의 출신 나라가 9개이기 때문입니다. 새로운 나라 출신 성도가 교회에 오면, 그 나라의 국기를 무대 위에 둘 것입니다.  모든 민족의 영혼을 구원하여 제자 만드는 교회가 되려고 하면 출신국에 대한 사랑과 관심을 보여주어야 합니다. 만약 제가 아프리카에 있는 한 교회에 출석했는데, 그 곳에서 한국 국기나 미국 국기를 본다면 안정감과 고마운 생각이 들 것 같습니다. 그래서 모든 민족과 나라에서 온 분들을 환영하고 섬기는 비전교회의 마음을 국기를 두는 것으로 표현했습니다. 어떤 분이 농담으로 만약 무대에 둘 수 없을 정도로 많은 분이 오면 어떻게 할 것이냐고 묻습니다. 그러면 정말 행복하고 감사할 것 같습니다. 본당의 좌우 벽에 두는 방법도 있습니다. 

그런데 어디에 어떻게 국기를 두는가 하는 것 보다 중요한 것은 모든 민족에 대한 비전교회 성도들의 마음일 것입니다.  토요일에 초청전도를 하다가 만난 사람들에게 우리는 모든 민족을 위한 교회를 한다고 하면 정말 좋은 생각이고 부럽다고 합니다. 교회에 방문하는 분들에게도 우리교회는 모든 민족을 섬기는 교회라고 하면 성경적이라고 합니다. 우리는 성경에서 하라고 하는대로 하고있습니다. ‘너희는 가서, 모든 민족을 제자로 삼아 아버지와 아들과 성령의 이름으로 세례를 주라!’는 예수님의 말씀대로 하는 것입니다. 미국에 백인 위주의 교회가 다민족을 섬기는 예로서 오레곤에 Village church가 있습니다. 5월에 우리교회 7명이 탐방을 가보려고 합니다. 한인 교회로 시작되어 모든 민족을 섬기는 우리교회와는 상황이 다릅니다. 그러나, 틀림없이 배울 것이 있습니다. 한인 교회로 잘 하던 교회가 다른 언어를 사용해서 모든 민족까지 품는 경우는 찾기가 어렵습니다. 한인 교회에 연결되어서 영어를 하는 다민족을 섬기는 영어권 교회는 있습니다. 우리는 문자대로 모든 민족을 위한 교회를 세우는 중입니다.   

We placed national flags on the main sanctuary stage. We have placed a total of 9 flags- USA, Korea, China, Brazil, South Africa, Mexico, Kazakhstan, UK, and Haiti- because our Vision Church Family brothers and sisters are from those countries. If another person joins our church from a different nationality, we plan to place those flags on the stage as well. We must show our love and care for our brothers and sister’s motherland if we want to build the church of saving the souls and making disciples of all nations. I would feel grateful and comfortable if I saw the Korean or US flag when I attended church service in Africa. We express our welcoming of our members from different national backgrounds by placing their country flags. Someone asked me with a sense of humor what we would do if we have so many members from different national backgrounds so that our stage couldn’t handle that many international flags. I will be very happy and grateful if that happens. We could have placed those flags on each side of the main sanctuary. 

What is more important than the location of the flag placement is our Vision Church members' hearts. Many people who we met during our Saturday city evangelism shared that it is a good idea and they admire that our church is building the church of all nations. Those who visit our church say our church is Biblical when we tell them our church serves people from all nations. We do what the Bible tells us to do. We do as Jesus commanded us “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” There is a good example of an old white American Church in Oregon called Village Church, that serves all nations. Seven members from our church are planning to visit the church in May. It is different from our church, starting with the Korean church and slowly transforming to the church of all nations. However, there will be something that we can learn from there. It is very hard to find a good bench mark from the Korean Church that transformed to the church of all nations. There is an American Church who serves English speaking members from multinational backgrounds in conjunction with the Korean Church. We are building the church of all nations, literally.
