우리들 이야기

이번 말씀잔치의 강사 이우철 목사님은 예전에 우리교회에서 설교하신 적이 있습니다. 그럼에도 이번에 또 모시게 된 이유가 있습니다. 첫째, 북미에 있는 제가 아는 목회자 중에서 가장 가정교회 정신이 분명하고 또 실천하는 분입니다. 둘째, 제가 아는 분 중에서 가장 강해 설교를 탁월하게 잘 하는 분 중에 한분입니다. 셋째, 우리교회가 필요한 ‘재충전’의 설교를 잘 해 주실수 있는 분입니다. 물론 설교의 내용도 이전에 하신 것과 다를 것입니다. 그러니까 기대하고 기다리고 은혜로 채우는 시간이 되시길 바랍니다. 이우철 목사님에게 소개하는 글을 부탁드렸더니 이렇게 주셨습니다.- 저는 3대째 기독교 집안에서 태어났습니다, 어려서부터 늘 교회 안에서 자랐지만 분명한 구원의 확신은 없이 습관처럼 교회안에 머물러 있었습니다. 고등학교 2학년 때 친구의 권유로 참석했던 ‘고등학생을 위한 CCC 여름 캠프’에서 복음을 듣고 예수님을 내 삶의 구세주와 주인으로 영접하게 되었습니다. 

그리고는 ‘값을 수 없는 구원의 은혜를 받은 나는 어떤 삶을 살아야 할까?’를 고민하며 기도하던 중에, 이웃 교회에 미국 선교사님이 오셔서 인도하신 선교 집회에 참석하여, 복음이 없는 곳에 복음을 전하는 일을 위해 제 삶을 드리기로 헌신하였습니다.   선교의 열정을 가진 저는 고향이 항구도시인 인천이라서 외항선들이 들어오면, 배에 올라 복음을 전하는 외항선교회에서 복음을 전하며 고등학교 시절을 보냈습니다. 그리고 군에 다녀와 신학대학에 복학하여 다니다가 1989년에 하나님의 강력한 인도하심으로 아프가니스탄에 선교사로 파송되어 4년간 사역하였습니다.  1994년 미국으로 도미하여 신학 대학원 공부를 마칠 때쯤 주변에 교회 개척을 원하는 분들의 강렬한 요청이 있어서 함께 기도하며 2001년에 다섯 가정과 함께 [예닮 교회]를 개척하였습니다. 교회는 숫적으로 꽤 성장하였지만 영혼구원은 없이 수평이동에 의한 성장이 선교사였던 저에게는 불편하기만 했습니다. 그러다가 2005년 가정교회를 만나서 20년째 가정교회를 세워가고 있습니다.  

Our Revival guest speaker is Rev. Peter Lee, he has served as a guest speaker in our church previously. However, there are reasons why we asked him again to be our guest speaker. First, he has the most clear vision and execution for HC in North America among the pastors I know. Second, he is one of the best expository preachers among pastors I know. Third, he is the one who can give the best lesson to us over what we need most 're-charge.' Of course, the sermon he is going to share will be different from the previous one. So please feel this time of expectation and waiting with grace. When I asked Rev. Peter Lee for his own introduction, his reply was like this - I was born in a 3rd generation Christian household. Even though I grew up in the Church, I didn't have assurance in salvation, I just attended church as a habit. When I was a junior in High school, my friend asked me to come to "CCC summer camp for high school students" and I attended the camp. In the Camp, I received the Good News and then accepted Jesus as my savior and the Lord of my life. I was praying and searching how I should live my life, knowing that I received salvation and grace that I can't ever repay. 

When I attended a mission revival service hosted by my neighboring Church with an American Missionary, I committed my life to bringing Good News to where there isn't any. I was passionate about the Mission, so in my home town Incheon, one of the main sea ports in Korea, I shared the Gospel aboard whenever an international flagship docked at the port during my high school years. After my military service, I continued my theological studies. In 1989, by God's strong guiding hand, I was sent to Afghanistan and served there for 4 years. I came to America in 1994 to pursue my theological studies in a seminary. When I finished my study, some Korean families asked me to plant a new church. After praying together with 5 families, we started "Resemblance-Christ Korean Church" in Dallas. The Church grew greatly in numbers by absorbing Christians from other churches without saving any soul. This made me very uncomfortable since I was a missionary. Among these struggles, I met HC in 2005. Because of this, I have been building HCs for 20 years.
